The History of Cannabis

Early 1800s to Early 1900s
Cannabis was widely accepted as a legitimate and effective medicine, listed in pharmacopoeias and available in various forms. It was a leading treatment for around 200 different ailments.

1930s - Prohibition Era
Due to negative social associations and the efforts of individuals like Harry Anslinger, head of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, cannabis was criminalized through the 1937 Tax Act, despite its medical benefits.

1940s - Scientific Insights
The La Guardia Report documented the mild effects of cannabis and challenged the negative narratives. While the government once threatened to suppress further research, new studies have led to the legalization of cannabis use both medicinally and recreationally.
